The Biblical Languages Certificate program is designed to equip Bible translators, translation advisors, Biblical language teachers, and students to attain genuine fluency in Koine Greek or Biblical Hebrew through the communicative approach grounded in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research. Designed as a structured and mentored pathway, the program forms fluent users of the Biblical languages who can read and teach fluently, and translate directly from the Greek New Testament or Hebrew Bible, and related literature. Moving beyond traditional grammar-translation approaches, participants learn to listen, speak, read, write, and think in Greek and Hebrew, leading to deeper comprehension, greater accuracy, and lasting mastery of the languages in service of the Church.
The cost of this program €4000.
We have some scholarship placements available for our partners (NTCA and others in future) and others from the Global South. The scholarship covers up to 90% of the cost. Feel free to contact us with a scholarship request.
When following the program alternating in-person semesters with online semesters, there is (limited) accommodation available at Tyndale Theological Seminary. The cost of this accommodation and feeding is €700 per month.
Please note that this option is only available if your nationality allows you to stay in the Netherlands on a 90-day visitor's visa (multiple entry within a two-year window).
All in-person courses are taught at Tyndale Theological Seminary in Badhoevedorp (Amsterdam), the Netherlands.
To broaden our scope, we have limited entry requirements for our courses. It is helpful to speak English, but not strictly required for most courses.
Some courses follow on from each other; e.g. Greek 2 can only be followed after Greek 1. Certain courses are tailored specfically towards those teaching the Biblical languages or planning to do so.
All applications will be considered for approval. Enrolment in TAAL courses does not automatically guarantee enrolment into Tyndale programs, but if Tyndale's entry requirements are met, TAAL courses will be taken into consideration in the program planning.
No entry requirements: Greek 1, Hebrew 1
Previous knowledge of Greek or Hebrew required: Aramaic, NT Reading, OT Reading
Teaching position (or concrete plans to teach) PLUS previous language knowledge: Greek Pedagogy 1, Hebrew Pedagogy 1
